Selling Art on the Streets of NYC

This weekend I visited Union Square park and saw all the tables of people selling art. I started to think hard about this venture and looked into becoming a street artist (as they are called).

I always though that these artists needed a vending license to sell their art, but gladly found out that they do not need one in NYC. This was decided a few years back and is such a great opportunity for us artists.

I do need to get a tax id number, which I have been looking into getting. I have made this my next goal. We will see how it goes. I also need to get a table and platform to hang my art.

I will keep updating on this adventure as it happens.

Inspiration for Creating my Art

I have many images and things that inspired me when creating my artwork.

The first image and character that inspired me and hooked me into the fantasy world is that of Tinkerbell. She was my all time favorite childhood make believe character and still is today.

Linda Ravenscroft was the author of my first fairy drawing book and I fell in love with her art. Below is one example of her art.

I use a lot of flowers in my art. My father always had a flower garden in our backyard and I was always intrigued by the different shapes and colors. Below are a couple examples of flowers and the colors that inspire me.

Anything can be an inspiration to an artist and I always keep looking.

License Artwork to make Merchandise!

I have been noticing so many opportunities to have one's artwork get license. This gives the artist the chance to get their artwork on merchandise such as t-shirts, stickers, tote bags, and so much more.

I would someday love to get my artwork licensed to make all these products. I think it is just a great way to have your artwork owned by a variety of people who might not have bought a painting.

I will be looking more into this, and who knows what will come out of it.
